Week 14: Research

Since my story, The Femme Fatale, is supposed to be written in a future timeline, I thought it would be interesting to research different people's visions of the future.

The website I checked out was an interesting project called the "Future Views toolkit". They include three different viewpoints to check out: where we are currently, how we see the future, and how can we get to the future we envision? I thought that was an interesting take. You can check out the website here:

It is also important to note that the people interviewed for the Future Views toolkit reside in England, but I think that these ideas are worldly and could be applied to the situations of many different countries.

They discuss many internal factors and external factors that could affect the future. Internal factors would be things such as not getting enough encouragement from parents, societal prejudice, and the stereotype that young people are lazy. Some external factors that affect the future would be economic division in society, rising costs in the creative industry, and environmental factors (like pollution). I can see how some of these factors could affect the government of the United States that I'm writing about, and how it could cause such an institution to collapse if these factors aren't properly addressed.

Another interesting point that this site mentions about affection the future are technological changes. Because I am writing my story with the cyberpunk genre in mind, I imagine how technology could change the world drastically.

Then looking into the far future, the people interviewed had some interesting ideas about what will happen. One of the most interesting things that was mentioned was that if technology gets to be too much then people might want an escape. They also talk about how technology might make people see old traditions in a different light, they talk about the possibility of media's effect on the people as well.

It was cool to read about these different perspectives about the future and I never thought about all the different factors that might be involved to get us to where we are today.
